Joined by White House Guests, Jobvite Offers Apps for Heroes, Technologies that Help Veterans Find Employment
Social Recruiting Innovator Connects Veterans with Job Opportunities at the Fastest Growing Companies in the Country
SAN FRANCISCO – JANUARY 18, 2012 – In response to a White House call to action to support military families and veterans, Jobvite, the leading recruiting platform for the social web, introduced Apps for Heroes – new technologies to help veterans more easily find and connect to civilian jobs. Employers using Jobvite can now automatically post open jobs to the Veterans Job Bank and enable veterans to easily upload their military service history when applying to jobs online. Jobvite announced the new features at the Apps for Heroes event in San Francisco today, celebrated by U.S. Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra and Dr. Jill Biden.
Jobvite customers include many of the fastest growing companies in the country across a variety of industries. These innovative businesses are creating jobs at a rapid pace – good news for the economy and for veterans. With the new features introduced today, employers and veterans benefit in three ways:
- Jobvite customers can flag job opportunities specifically targeted for veterans, so they are automatically added to the Veterans Job Bank.
- Companies using Jobvite can also add the Veterans Affairs’ Blue Button to their career sites, allowing veterans to easily attach their military service history when applying online.
- These companies can also take advantage of the White House’s Returning Heroes Tax Credit initiatives, which offers incentives for hiring unemployed veterans.
“Jobvite is dedicated to supporting America's veterans as they return to the workforce. With the new Web apps introduced today, veterans can find and apply for jobs they may not have discovered otherwise,” said Dan Finnigan, Chief Executive Officer of Jobvite. “We're proud to be a part of the Apps for Heroes program and promote to veterans the good employment opportunities offered by fast-growing companies.”
Apps for Heroes, developed in response to the Joining Forces initiative spearheaded by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Biden, provides new online technologies for veterans to gain better access to jobs. More than 850,000 post-9/11 veterans were unemployed as of October 2011, and President Obama challenged American employers to hire or train 100,000 unemployed veterans and their spouses by 2013. More than one million service members are projected to leave the military through 2016.
“LivingSocial is proud to use Apps for Heroes to help our veterans find jobs in the civilian workforce,” said Jennifer Trzepacz, Vice President of Human Resources at LivingSocial. “LivingSocial seeks people who possess off-the-charts drive to help build our business, and prior military service makes for great candidates. Adding Jobvite's Blue Button to our careers site will create a simple means for veterans to share their service history when applying for positions at LivingSocial.”About Joining Forces
First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden created Joining Forces to bring Americans together to recognize, honor and take action to support veterans and military families as they serve our country and throughout their lives. The initiative aims to educate, challenge, and spark action from all sectors of society to ensure veterans and military families have the support they have earned. The initiative focuses on key priority areas -- employment, education, and wellness while raising awareness about the service, sacrifice, and needs of America's veterans and military families.
